Public Golf Courses in the Greater Birmingham, Alabama Area
The Oaks Golf Course

The Oaks Golf Course is Oak Mountain State Park’s golf course! This course is located inside Oak Mountain State Park, the largest state park in Alabama. This public golf course (after entry to Oak Mountain State Park) is a Par 72, 18 hole championship course. You can make reservations beforehand or if available, the course does accept walk-ons!
There’s also a restaurant called The Grille and Pro Shop for you to enjoy while you’re golfing at The Oaks. Be sure to take time to visit some other areas of the State Park while you’re there. This course is open year round and has been on Golf Digest’s best public golf courses in the US list numerous times! RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is very well known in Alabama (and we’re covering 2 locations in this blog that are in the Greater Birmingham area!). This public golf course has 3 different courses, two are 18 hole courses, and the last is a 9 hole course, totaling to a 45 hole golf course. It’s located in downtown Birmingham, so you’re sure to see some great views of the area!
The three courses are: Ridge (18 Hole Course, Par 72), Valley (18 Hole Course, Par 72), and The Back Yard (9 Hole Course, Par 27). The Back Yard golf course is a more relaxed course where you can spend time around a fire pit and drink, enjoy games, and play the 9 hole course for fun! There are even rental homes you can rent out if you’d like to make a weekend of it.

RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge

Here’s another golf course location in the Birmingham area that’s part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail! This Ross Bridge location is the fifth longest golf course in the world! Located in Hoover, Alabama, the course runs throughout and around the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa and offers their award winning golf course to golfers of all levels. RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge has received awards from Golf Magazine and Golf Digest, so you’re sure to love what this course offers.

Highland Park Valley Golf Course

Roebuck Golf Course

This 18 hole championship course has been noticed and given awards by Golf Digest, Zagat Survey, and GolfWeek! This public golf course is over 225 acres in the Appalachian Mountains. Enjoy breakfast or lunch after or before you play at Limestone Springs’ 19th Hole restaurant. This course is almost an hour North of Birmingham, so it’s the farthest course away from the Birmingham area on our list.
